Catherine O’Hara Still Wears Her Moira Rose Costumes

Ever wonder what stars pack for Paris Fashion Week? For actor Catherine O’Hara – who touched down in the City of Light to attend Loewe’s autumn/winter 2024 show on Friday – her suitcase included a few particularly special gems. Namely, some of her fabulous Moira Rose costumes from Schitt’s Creek, which she still regularly wears in her day-to-day life. “I brought a great little Balenciaga dress [from the show] – I wore it to dinner the other night,” O’Hara tells Vogue over the phone, post-Loewe front row. “They were really generous about what I could take.” Her nod to the character makes sense, given that O’Hara attributes her foray into the world of fashion to her turn as Moira. “I don’t think anyone would’ve thought of me sitting in the front row before I played Moira,” she says. “It’s really opened my eyes to not getting away with wearing the cheap stuff I used to wear.”
O’Hara is hardly unfashionable in her own right, though. On the front row at designer Jonathan Anderson’s show, alongside stars like Pharrell and Meg Ryan, the actress looked impossibly chic in a tailored Loewe overcoat and satiny blouse. “The cashmere coat was just so bountiful and lush,” O’Hara says of the look. “I also wore a beautiful dark brown satin shirt with a black collar. And the heels were like slippers: they had the softest butter leather and were somehow really comfortable, with a beautiful pointed toe. They were both feminine and scary at the same time.”
The star’s personal highlights from the new collection, meanwhile, were the designs with theatrical, voluminous silhouettes. “The big, billowy pants looked like they were alive – the way they moved,” she says. “A lot of pieces that looked like they had lives of their own. And I loved the formal tails. What I love about Jonathan’s clothes is that it’s so seriously beautiful, but doesn’t take itself too seriously.” She says that the avant-garde spirit and sense of humour is precisely what Moira Rose would have loved about it. “She would really love it – and also expect to be given several pieces to keep.”
Speaking of keepsakes, Vogue couldn’t resist asking O’Hara about the other staples in her wardrobe that she has clung onto over the years. Turns out, her denim collection is particularly sentimental. “I have these jeans that I stole from my son,” she says. “They’re Hollister, and they’ve got really big pockets in the front. They just fit well – they’re a nice medium low rise.” She also has a pair of jeans from 1974, when she was working with The Second City. “We did this trade with the Chicago cast, and the producer took us shopping,” she says. “I bought these jeans that have a zipper up the front. They’re really tight on the hips, and go unbelievably wide to the floor. They still fit!”
Following her whirlwind Paris Fashion Week experience, O’Hara is set to continue work on a few highly-anticipated upcoming projects, including her starring roles in sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and the second season of The Last of Us. “I’ve only done one day so far on The Last of Us, and I got to work with Pedro Pascal,” she says. “He’s delightful and lovely, and obviously a great actor.” As for what fans can expect from the Beetlejuice sequel, they can trust that it’ll be authentic to the first film. “It felt like the original shoot of the [first] movie, just really loose and fun,” says O’Hara. “Tim Burton was in great spirits. I have a few great outfits in it.” We can’t wait for that.
