Wondering how to wear corduroy this season? “Your muse of the season is more hippy music teacher on a hot date than bell-bottom-clad rock star at Woodstock; more an older Jane Birkin in slouchy chocolate cords than her younger self in a three-piece white suit with skinny flares,” advises British Vogue’s fashion features editor, Laura Hawkins, wrote about the comeback of corduroy trousers.

The key difference between this season’s standout styles and their ‘70s’ predecessors? The silhouettes feel decisively modern. Trousers are, by and large, cut baggier, lending contemporary ease to the otherwise nostalgic fabric, while corduroy’s plush texture now extends beyond trousers to encompass skirts, Bermuda shorts and jackets, too.
The autumn/winter 2025 runways featured corduroy in many iterations, from professorial matching sets seen at Christopher Ebser and Chanel, to brilliantly cut trousers styled with leather jackets and animal prints at Tory Burch and Emporio Armani, respectively. Ganni’s versions were utility-inspired with oversized pockets and loose cuts.
Off the runway, the street-style set embraced both approaches, some leaning fully into coordinated separates, while others channelled The Row’s signature nonchalance by pairing loose-fitting cords with pared-back T-shirts and bomber jackets.
