40 Nostalgic Golden Globes Snaps To Get You In The Mood For Awards Season
On top of wondering whether their name will be pulled from the shiny envelope on Sunday night, the nominees for the 2026 Golden Globes will also be bracing themselves for the prospect of a roasting from the notoriously acid-tongued Nikki Glaser, who is returning to host for a second time (12 months after she had a certain Ben Affleck in her crosshairs). Their Hollywood forebears were more fortunate – having someone host the ceremony has only really been a thing since 2010.
It’s far from the only thing that’s changed over the years. Back in the ’50s, when the quintessential Hitchcock blonde, Grace Kelly, was dominating, it was still called the Foreign Press Awards. And while Liz Taylor liked to show up dripping in her signature diamonds, mid-century ceremonies were far more modest affairs than their modern counterparts. No power stylists, no naked dresses, no lip readers analysing celebrity exchanges in the crowd.
Ahead of the 83rd Golden Globes on 11 January – where British Vogue’s February cover star Jessie Buckley’s triumph in the Best Actress in a Drama category seems all but assured – revisit some fabulously nostalgic photos from ceremonies past.
