The jewellery motif that unites Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Diana, Cameron Diaz, Winona Ryder, and Ashanti, the heart necklace, is trending once more. The sentimental piece’s throwback appeal is undeniable. Heart necklaces are part of a broader return to playful accessorising – think bag charms, statement belts and beaded necklaces – all pieces that feel collected rather than obviously styled. Still, the risk remains: worn incorrectly, a heart pendant can veer into Ab Fab-era excess. Today’s interpretations, however, lean less loud and more intentional.
Chloé’s most recent collection was littered with gold, swinging heart-shaped charms – layered, tactile, and designed to move with the wispy fabrics on the runway. Elsewhere, Chopova Lowena took the heart in a different direction altogether, infusing it with the brand’s signature punk sensibility. Paired with carabiners, chains, and novelty charms, the heart became playful and deliberately confrontational. Vivienne Westwood’s heart pendants are also a nice alternative to the brand’s best-selling orbs.
On the contemporary jewellery front, brands like Completedworks and Otimberg offer pared-back, sculptural versions that feel modern, unfussy and ideal for everyday wear. But for those drawn to something bolder, Roxanne First and Rachel Jackson’s designs are a little more out there.
Whether rendered as a single oversized pendant on a cord, layered in multiples, or reduced to something spare and metallic, there is no shortage of heart necklaces to choose from right now. Scroll to discover the Vogue-approved heart necklace styles to shop.
